Music Hub!
Filed by Bil at 8:53 pm under Love
Hello. I just thought I’d offer a free service here. There is a bunch of free music to listen to on the internet these days, and we’ve been using some of it here on the website, and I thought it might be nice to both you, the reader/viewer/listener, and them, the musicians who are constantly trying to build a fan base. So here you have it, all in one convenient blog post: my current favorites. Some of these you’ll find in earlier blog posts here on Tip Your Waiter; some I haven’t yet had the opportunity to use, and I’m dying to get them out there.
I’m in a totally musical mood lately, and I want to share!
In this list: Laura Veirs, Grizzly Bear, OK Go, Drive-By Truckers, The Smashing Pumpkins, Broken Bells, and Ben Folds.
Laura Veirs: Super-hot AND haunting.
Grizzly Bear: something airy, something grounded, and something plasmatic about this band…
OK Go: One of my favorite songs of late, “This Too Shall Pass,” and CHECK IT OUT! This one song comes with two of my favorite music videos of late. I can’t believe this is coincidence.
1) The Notre Dame marching band live edition
OK Go - This Too Shall Pass from OK Go on Vimeo.
2) The Rube Goldberg Machine studio edition
Drive-By Truckers: a newer discovery with a sweet rockin’ sound. Check out “This Fucking Job” in this player…
The Smashing Pumpkins: in principle, I am opposed to Billy Corgan calling his current band something that it clearly is not; however, the fact remains Billy is back and making some very interesting tunes.
Broken Bells: Danger Mouse & the guy from The Shins, what a pair of douche bags.
Ben Folds: an Ode to Merton. For those who don’t know, this guy Merton was the genius who invented the Chat Roulette improv (I think)…he wears the green hoodie, which Ben does not fail to honor. This phenomenon is the most exciting use of the internet, like, ever.
