Impeach the man already

Let me start off by stating that I agree — Cheney must be impeached. I encourage you all to go to impeachcheney.org and sign their front page petition. Tell your representative, if you know who that is. Get everyone you can to go and sign this petition.

Now, having said that, I would like to point out that their YouTube-based propaganda campaign is dishearteningly shitty.

This video really isn’t well-made, in my opinion. It has the feel of a high-school essay where the paragraphs barely support the thesis, if at all. The graphic design is effective, but in the wrong way. It is made so that the viewer will be frightened, but it lacks in the educational aspect which is really the only thing that can give such a message any dignity. If you want to make a truly effective video to encourage support for the impeachment of the vice president, you have to find the videos where he really uses strong language and just let his words do their own talking. The choppy editing of this video leads one to believe that this may have all been taken out of context, and therefore cannot be trusted.

If I didn’t already think he ought to be impeached, I would probably disagree after seeing this video. It does not seem well-researched, the music is overbearingly evil (what, are we children?), and the clips of Cheney speaking are really some of his better-chosen speeches. Don’t tell me that he has “openly threatened aggression against the Republic of Iran” only to follow that statement up with Cheney subtly hinting that military force is still one of many options at this point. It feels phony. It feels forced. Go deeper, filmmakers, be honest. Educate us, don’t frighten us. Impeachment is a lengthy process; you can’t impeach someone in the heat of passion. We need a damn good reason to do it, and we need to be absolutely certain.

There. That’s it. The propaganda video sucks, but you don’t have to watch it to sign the petition. Impeach Cheney!

And yes, I know full well that it’s too little too late at this point. And I know that some of you don’t care. But come on. If it works, some good will have been done. If it doesn’t, no harm no foul, right? It takes all of fifty seconds. If you’re bored enough to have read this entry all the way up to this point, you’re bored enough to go and sign the petition.

In other news, I saw this headline today:

Bush sharpens budget attack on Democrats

I’m sorry, but I really don’t think George W. Bush has any right to criticize anyone’s budget plan. Not with his track record.

Help The Final Push to Impeachment

It’s time! ImpeachForPeace.org is traveling to Washington DC at the end of this month to deliver thousands of Do-It-Yourself Impeachment Memorials to key representatives in the House!

Support for impeachment is building. As of this writing, 14 reps are supporting Dennis Kucinich’s resolution to impeach Dick Cheney (H. Res. 333).

Even if you’ve sent them to your congressperson before, Click here to send us your DIY Memorials before we go.

You may not realize that the only thing standing between where we are today and a nationally televised impeachment investigation is the House Judiciary passing this resolution, which is currently awaiting consideration in their committee. The head of this committee, John Conyers, has said recently that he supports the national impeachment movement.

All we need to push it over the edge is public support, and that’s where we come in.

Video of our trip will be posted on our website shortly upon our return. We’ll let you know when it’s up!

Click here to be a part of this!

Here’s a funny video about this unique strategy

Thank you for this. This is precisely why I am fully against impeaching Bush — the empty-headed figure-head. Cheney needs to be removed, and I believe doing so will bring a blessed change to our buckling nation.
