Religious Freedom

Is a myth. Free to be a Christian, maybe, but that’s it. Case in point:

[EDIT: I should have pointed out that the hecklers are not senators, they were from a fringe group called "Operation Save America." Their press release regarding this incident can be found here.]

The shouters were in our United States Senate!?! I weep at what I just saw.

Appalling disrespect! This is absolutely outrageous. The temerity of these Senators–I say we impeach the lot! Grrrrr….
    that is all.

The shouters were activists, not Senators, which makes it a little less unbelievable. Not that it’s any less appalling.

Religious freedom is no more a myth than freedom of speech. Indeed, these protestors are flbbergastingly obnoxious and rude. But when you realize they are from a nut-case right-wing group called “Operation Save America” (note the lack of a colin) and when you read their little press release, you can take some comfort in how ignorant they are.

The really eerie part is that the loud and ignorant can mobilize so easily.

I rescind my earlier statement — thanks for the correction. Still the appalling amount of disrespect shown to this man of the cloth is absolutely astounding. And Bil: of course there’s no colin in “Operation Save America” — my brother’s not that much of a nutjob. :) Sadly, though, there’s also no colon. Alas.
Re: freedom of speech as a myth: of course it’s a myth–it has been ever since the press decided to roll over and take everything the Bushies are giving them right up the ass… And we’re back on the subject of “colons.” haha.
    That is all.

My favorite part is this: “Not one Senator had the backbone to stand as our Founding Fathers stood.” Look, I don’t pretend to know the exact thought patterns of the Founding Fathers, but I’m pretty sure they were respectful. And I’m pretty sure they were secure enough in their faith* to see what they could learn from other leaders and NOT be so threatened as to feel the need to expel them from the Senate floor.

*Which was Deism, by the way, not Christianity…this is a whole other rant.
