Blood and Guts and shiny things are the Future

Here’s a brief update, and then the rest of this post won’t have anything to do with symmetrically-named 20th century writers, I promise. So after my next paragraph, I won’t allow myself to write anything about either William Carlos Williams… or Ford Madox Ford. But I will write about a portable, wearable projector and a plastic cloud.

We had our red pen meeting tonight, as promised, and was very encouraged. Bil and Trevor had good things to say, and got me to see what I was looking at all along. There are whole sections which don’t tell us anything about Flossie, Williams’ wife, and that needs to change. Trevor commented that the best parts of the piece so far are the ones where all the blood and guts hang out, because Williams’ life was both full of artistic endeavors, and some really nasty wounds and wounding. So, more blood and guts it is. On we go.

And on and on. So, what else does the future look like?

Here’s a little video I first saw over at Adam Shames’ blog through Kreativity.net. Adam facilitates and teaches creativity and innovation for all kinds of organizations, and I thought this little gem demonstrates some really amazing, simple, outside the box thinking. You’ll notice, also, that at 6:49 with the projected word cloud, the term “IMSA” comes up, which is my alma mater. IMSA diddy-wah! NAME DROP!

I was also inspired by this article which appeared in the BBC. Just like the “Sixth Sense” device above, the Digital Cloud, planned for construction in London, is built of stuff we already have, using what we already know, but someone had the guts to say, “Let’s do something different.

The take home lesson is that the future is a lot like the present, just looked at from ways you haven’t thought about before.
