“In addition to the math and science faculty, IMSA was the first place I ever met people who have Doctorates in crazy things like History or English, and had a lot to do with me doing a 180 from particle physics to theater direction.” — Inquiry-/Enquiry- based Theater/Theatre

Lance Brett Hall got interested in theater through the usual channels: high energy physics and automotive engineering. He discovered theater while earning a diploma at the Illinois Mathematics and Science Academy, and his early interest in science and mathematics still influences his current work as a process of discovery and investigation.
Among other projects in Chicago, Lance has worked for Lookingglass Theater Company under David Catlin and assisted Frank Galati during Victory Gardens’ original production of Snow Queen. Lance is a Contributing Editor with Tip Your Waiter Productions and Co-Director of the Bite Size Arts Ensemble. He is currently developing a play for Tip Your Waiter about the life, marriage, and work of the American poet William Carlos Williams and his wife, Flossie, called The Meaning of Anthology. You can follow his progress at www.tipyourwaiter.org. With the Bite Size Arts Ensemble, Lance is developing a piece about creativity and imagination called What’s Your Imagination Worth? A New Kind of ROI, which will be implemented in the curriculum of the brand new Institute for Arts Entrepreneurship, which can be found at www.theiae.com. Lance specializes in pieces which rely on actor creativity and group movement.
Lance lived and attended school in Baden-Württemberg, Germany, and is an avid student of the history of German acting technique, which, believe it or not, he almost never has a chance to bring up, except at parties. He is the first fluent German speaker in his family since his ancestors emigrated five generations ago, and also reads ancient Greek and Latin proficiently. He holds a degree cum laude in Theater Directing and Actor Studies from Cornell University, where he studied under the mentorship of the Pulitzer Prize nominee David Feldshuh.
